Words matter.

An October 14th opinion piece in the New York Times by Jonathan Merritt was entitled “We Need to Talk About God”. He spoke about the decline in our spiritual vocabulary. A survey of 1,000 American Adults revealed that more than 3/4 do not have spiritual or religious conversations. Only 7% say they talk about spiritual matters regularly.

Since we don’t use the spiritual vocabulary we are starting to loose words like “love”, “patience”, gentleness”, and “faithfulness” there use has declined. (well we love everything so it has lost a lot of meaning). The word modesty fell by 52% and kindness by 56%. How often do you talk about God? Only in your home? Only to Family? Remember the old saying “ if you don’t use it you loose it.”.
