Common Concern (Social Justice)

Have you ever thought what life would be like if you were a homeless child? One in 30 children will be homeless during their childhood in the United States according to the National Center for Family Homelessness.

Common contributors to homelessness include poverty, lack of affordable housing and employment opportunities, domestic violence, and health and mental health issues, including the effects of trauma. Homelessness influences every facet of a child’s life. The experience of homelessness inhibits the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and behavioral development of children.  Homeless children are not simply at risk; most suffer specific physical, psychological, and emotional damage.

During this time of Advent we await the birth of our Savior and Lord. Let us keep those children who are homeless in our prayers.
